Don’t Lose Heart
About this series
As we return to Sunday meetings we realise that people may have become weary and lost some focus. So in our next series we hope to help people deal well with their internal space as well as grasp opportunities and return to ‘action.’ Of course, these two things are very closely connected as people always live out what is happening internally. By ‘heart’ the Bible means the core of a person’s being; the seat of emotion, desire, thought and decision. The biblical term ‘heart’ relates most closely to the modern idea of ‘mind’
About this talk
2 Corinthians 4:1-18
Life is often a wonderful, hugely enjoyable journey; and at times it’s a greatly challenging one. One of those challenges is that of losing heart - being tempted to give up, losing hope, resigning under a gloom of negativity. People lose heart for all sorts for reasons, such as hurt, tiredness, fear, disappointment, regret, bitterness, etc. Paul writes, twice, “Therefore we do not lose heart”, but this only needs to be said because of the very real possibility of losing heart. One of the qualities God’s Spirit works in us is perseverance, patience, endurance - the ability to stand, or keep moving forward, positively.
Paul’s reasons for not losing heart are:
Because of the ministry and its implications that he mentioned in ch 3.
Because despite their hardships, God’s grace is reaching more people, which in turn is bringing
glory to God.
Because of our eternal hope
What God has done, what he is doing and what he will do are all reasons not to lose heart.
