Search My Heart

About this series

As we return to Sunday meetings we realise that people may have become weary and lost some focus. So in our next series we hope to help people deal well with their internal space as well as grasp opportunities and return to ‘action.’ Of course, these two things are very closely connected as people always live out what is happening internally. By ‘heart’ the Bible means the core of a person’s being; the seat of emotion, desire, thought and decision. The biblical term ‘heart’ relates most closely to the modern idea of ‘mind’

About this talk

Psalm 139:23-24

This famous Psalm starts with David acknowledging that the Lord has already searched him and knows him and ends with a request that God would search him and know his heart. Recognising that God is always with him, having created him and still thinking of him, David adopts a humble posture and a desire that God will continue to purify him, which means removing anything in him that offends God and leading him in ways that are consistent with eternal life.

This first talk in the series is an opportunity to:

  • Recognise the importance of taking care of our hearts

  • Humble ourselves in openness to God, being encouraged that he knows us completely, yet loves us

  • Ask God to reveal to each of us anything that displeases him or keeps us from loving him fully

If you have any questions about this talk, want to find out more about Citygate Church, or want to know more about what it means to be a Christian, please fill in our online Connect form at citygate.church/connect.
