“My faith shapes everything I do at Arch. It’s not separate from work” - Mia, Arch Coffee House Manager
When we opened the doors to Arch Coffee House, we dreamed of more than just serving great coffee—we wanted to create a space where people felt seen, welcomed, and loved. Over time, Arch has become a meeting place for all kinds of people, and a bridge between our church and the wider community. As the manager, Mia has had the privilege of watching God work through everyday conversations, unexpected moments, and countless cups of coffee. Here’s a glimpse into that journey.

A Calling Fulfilled at Arch
When I first stepped into Arch, it felt like a perfect blend of everything I love—coffee, people, and Jesus. I’ve always had a passion for being a barista and working in the hospitality world, but this place? It’s something special. Arch has become more than just a coffee house; it’s become a space where my love for serving people and my faith come together every single day.
The Vision: Warmth, Community, and Trust
When we first opened, the vision was simple: create a warm, safe space for people to gather—a place where regulars felt known, and newcomers felt welcomed. We wanted to establish ourselves as a great local coffee spot and slowly build trust with the community. Over time, it’s grown into something even more beautiful. Now in 2025, we have a steady stream of regulars, a peaceful environment, and most importantly, we’re seeing opportunities to share God’s love in natural, authentic ways. Whether it's offering prayer, having deep chats, or just being a consistent friendly face, God is at the center of it all.
Faith at the Heart of the Work
My faith shapes everything I do at Arch. It’s not separate from work—it is the work. From everyday decisions to unexpected moments of ministry, I rely on God’s guidance constantly. I’ve prayed for wisdom in running the coffee house, and for the people who walk through our doors. Time and time again, the Holy Spirit has shown up to help, comfort, and lead.
A Place Where Life Happens
A typical week at Arch? Well, no two weeks look the same—and I love that. There’s always something happening. One day it’s a knitting club, the next a remote working group or a local outreach meeting. Students from the university come in regularly, especially those who are new to Bournemouth and just trying to find a sense of home. We do our best to create that space for them. I’ve had so many meaningful conversations over the counter—some deep, some light-hearted—but all rooted in genuine care.
A Moment of Ministry
One moment that stands out from this past year was with a homeless lady who came in on a particularly cold morning. I’d seen her before and felt prompted to buy her a tea. We chatted about local services and support, and I felt a strong nudge from the Holy Spirit to pray with her. I was nervous, but I went for it—and she was so open, even moved. It was one of those moments where you know God is truly present. We’ve had more of those lately, moments where people aren’t necessarily looking for anything spiritual but end up encountering something deeper—kindness, peace, prayer... Jesus.
Meeting People Where They Are
We never force faith on anyone. Instead, we meet people where they are—with love, authenticity, and a willingness to listen. We’re real with our own experiences, and that has often opened doors for conversations about church or God. Some of our regulars now feel more comfortable attending church events or even just asking questions they might never ask elsewhere. Arch provides that bridge in a really unique way.
Building and Growing a Business with Purpose
From a business standpoint, it’s been a learning curve. Running the coffee house well takes a lot of organisation, planning, and teamwork. Thankfully, God equipped me through previous experiences to lead effectively here, and I try to invest in my team the same way I’d want to be supported. They’re amazing—I’m so thankful for each of them.
Grateful for the Journey
Looking back over the past year, I’m filled with gratitude. For the people I've met, the relationships we've built, and the ways God has moved through our little coffee house. There have been challenges—like refining our systems and making sure everything runs smoothly—but even through that, God has been faithful.
Looking Ahead with Hope
As for the year ahead? I’d love to see Arch continue to grow. I want more people to find us, feel at home here, and maybe experience something they didn’t expect. Whether it’s a good cup of coffee, a sense of belonging, or an encounter with God—our doors are open, and our hearts are ready.
