When I was younger, someone told me, “If you ever find yourself lost and alone in the world, you will always find a friend in the church.” That phrase stayed with me, even though I drifted far from it in my teenage years.
I had a Christian start to life, but as I grew up, my world took a dark turn. I ended up in places and situations I’m not proud of. My self-worth was at an all-time low, and I truly believed I wasn’t worthy of forgiveness, salvation, or God’s love. I’m still on the journey of rebuilding my life, but I’ve drawn a line under the past—I’m not living there anymore.
I first heard about Alpha when I was looking to learn more about God and the Bible. I had questions—big ones. Who is Jesus? How do we pray? Can I really be forgiven? Am I even worthy of His love? Alpha was advertised as a place where I could explore those questions in a safe, welcoming space—and that’s exactly what I found.
When you come to Alpha, you’re placed at a table with others, and there’s always someone from the church there to help guide conversations. We started with icebreakers and shared our hobbies and interests, which helped me feel relaxed and at ease. Then we had a meal together, watched a video about faith—topics like God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit—and then talked about what we’d heard. There was no pressure, no judgement. I didn’t have to commit to anything. I didn’t even have to come to church on Sundays. But I was welcomed with open arms.
Before Alpha, I was lost—just aimlessly wandering through life without any direction or purpose. After Alpha, everything changed. I began to see the path I was meant to be on, the one God had prepared for me. I started asking myself different questions: What are God’s expectations of me? What are my gifts and how can I use them for good? I found purpose in thinking about how I could make a positive impact in my community.
For the first time in my life, I don’t feel lost anymore. I know who I am. I know what I want from life. Alpha didn’t just give me answers—it gave me hope.
The transformation didn’t happen overnight. It came through small, steady steps—each one bringing me closer to God. Alpha opened my heart to a new way of living, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
Right now, I’m working on a creative project I’m passionate about: putting together a list of charities that need knitted items donated. I’m also building stronger friendships within the church and my local community. This is just the beginning.
If you’re curious, searching, or just feeling a bit lost like I was, I want to encourage you—Alpha could be your turning point too.
