Julie’s Story: "I Found Family at Life Group"
When Julie moved to Bournemouth, she didn’t know anyone—but one invitation changed everything. Through Life Group, she found connection and support. It quickly became like family, helping her grow and face big challenges.

When I first arrived in Bournemouth, I didn’t know a soul. Everything was new—and honestly, a bit overwhelming. But on my first visit to Citygate, someone mentioned Life Groups, and something just clicked. I’d been part of similar groups in other churches before, and I knew they were often the heart of the church—where real connection and support happen. So, I decided to give it a go.
From the very first meeting, I felt right at home. There was something so natural and welcoming about it. Without Life Group, I might not have gotten to know anyone in the church family. But now, I’ve found true friends and a deep sense of belonging.
Being part of a Life Group has been such a huge part of my spiritual growth. It keeps me accountable and gives me a safe place to step out in the gifts God has given me. One night, we were asked to wait on the Lord and share any words we received for others in the group. I asked God for something for each person—and He was so faithful. As more people unexpectedly joined that night, I quickly prayed again, not wanting anyone to feel left out. And He did it—He gave me something for each of them. That moment gave me so much courage and confidence to use my gifts more boldly.
Beyond the spiritual side, this group has become a lifeline. I’ve built deep, meaningful friendships. We’ve supported each other through thick and thin. When both my husband and I were unexpectedly unemployed, the group came together and collected money to help us. They gave me lifts to medical appointments. They even helped us move—and since we didn’t have much, they bought us a few essentials to help us get started again. I’ll never forget that love in action.
One of the greatest blessings for me has been the freedom to be 100% honest and vulnerable. I know I can trust the people in my group because they’re open and real with me too. Through their prayers, encouragement, and words, we've experienced spiritual breakthroughs that only God could have orchestrated.
To anyone considering joining a Life Group, I’d say this: just try it. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If I had to sum it all up in one word? Family.
